About Christofle Silver

The now renowned company started its journey when a young Charles Christofle decided to step in and grow his family’s small jewelry workshop located in the Marais District of Paris. Over the next decade, with financial backing from his wealthy sister Rosine Bouilhet-Christofle, Charles used his keen managerial skills to enlarge the business and secure patents that allowed him to build a technologically advanced manufacturing plant for plated goods. Focused on quality craftsmanship, Christofle only employed skilled and talented artisans, designers, and sculptors to ensure top of the line products.

Known for their quality, Christofle started building a reputation and consistently won critical praise. This acclaim led to important commissions that included Emperor Napoleon of France, Sultan Abdulaziz of the Ottoman Empire, and Emperor Maximillian of Mexico. As silversmiths to royalty, the aristocracy and bourgeoisie quickly became avid customers of Christofle tableware. By his death in 1863, Charles Christofle had successfully taken his family’s business from a small workshop to a leader in the luxury market around the globe.

Now in its 5th generation, Christofle Silver is still in the hands of the family. Whether gracing the tables of emperors, princes, or maharajas, in palaces, or in the contemporary restaurants, Christofle continues to make an impression. The company holds true to its tradition as artisans of fine design and superior quality in elegant tableware.
