About Baccarat Crystal
An international and award-winning French luxury brand, Baccarat Crystal is widely
regarded to be the leading manufacturer of high-quality and exclusive crystal products
in the world. The company’s desire and passion for perfection have been passed down
through the generations of artistic craftsmen since it was first established over three
centuries ago.
Their origins begin in 1764 when King Louis XV of France gave permission to Bishop
Montmorency-Laval, a French cardinal of the Catholic Church, to found glassworks in
Baccarat, Lorraine located in Eastern France. Production consisted of mirrors, window
panes, and stemware until 1816. When the first crystal oven went into operation in
1816, crystal production largely expanded from 1817 to 1869 and Baccarat built a
worldwide reputation for making fine crystal stemware, chandeliers, barware, and
perfume bottles. Their creations became popular among royalty, including the Queen
of Portugal who commissioned a private collection of decorative pieces and tableware,
currently on display in the Ajuda National Palace.
Today, Baccarat creates a wide range of high-end, exclusive crystal products that are
featured in some of the most beautiful and emblematic hotels, restaurants, commercial
spaces, museums, and private residences in the world. The manufacturer currently
owns two museums, one located in Paris on the Place des États-Unis and the other in
the town where it all started: Baccarat in Eastern France.
